Sports Physicals

What is a “Sports Physical?”

A Sports Physical or “Preparticipation Physical Evaluation” (PPE) determines medical eligibility for youth, high school, and college sports. The general goal of the sports physical is to detect conditions that predispose athletes to sports-related injury or illness and to specifically screen for the rare child at high risk of exercise-induced sudden cardiac death. Most schools in Washington state are part of the WIAA (Washington Interscholastic Activities Association), which requires a Sports Physical every other year to participate in school-based sports.
